IAEA Special Session on Optimization of Protection of Nuclear Installations against External Hazards

The IAEA special session is aimed to present the application of the fundamental safety principle “Optimization of Protection” to protection of nuclear installations against external hazards; this fundamental safety principle is intended to commensurate the level of resources devoted for safety demonstration, licensing and compliance verification with the magnitude of the radiation risk. The session is also aimed at describing the IAEA efforts to support Member States in the application of new design safety principles and concepts for nuclear power plants.
